Where to stay in Wroclaw for first-time visitors! (2026)

Wrocław is one of my favourite cities in Europe. As much as Kraków will always have a special place in my heart after living there, I have to admit that Wrocław feels even more exciting. It somehow feels bigger, and every time I visit, I seem to discover a new area, café, or hidden gem to fall in love with.

After staying in more than 15 different hotels and apartments across the city, I’ve put together this guide to help you find the perfect place to stay.

And since I have no intention of stopping my trips to Wrocław anytime soon, I’ll continue updating this guide with my favourite new accommodation finds as I discover them.

Where to stay in Wrocław

Let’s take a look at the areas I find most interesting for visitors, so you can decide which one is the best fit for your trip. There’s, of course, nothing wrong with the areas I don’t mention; these are just my favorites.

Stare Miasto (Old Town)

If it’s your first time in Wrocław, this is a great area to stay. Stare Miasto is the historic heart of the city, home to the colourful Market Square (Rynek), beautiful churches, picturesque cobbled streets, and many of Wrocław’s best restaurants, cafés, and attractions.

The Market Square itself is the lively centre of the Old Town and one of the largest medieval squares in Europe. Staying right on Rynek puts you in the middle of the action, while choosing a hotel a few streets away gives you a quieter stay without sacrificing the location.

✅ Perfect for first-time visitors, sightseeing, restaurants, nightlife, and the beautiful Christmas market. Almost everything you’ll want to see is within walking distance, and there’s a fantastic choice of hotels and apartments for every budget.

❌ Accommodation overlooking Rynek can be more expensive and a little noisy, especially on summer weekends. If you’re a light sleeper, I’d recommend staying a street or two away from the square instead.

Cathedral Island (Ostrów Tumski)

If you’re looking for the most romantic place to stay in Wrocław, Cathedral Island (Ostrów Tumski) is hard to beat. It’s the oldest area, originating in the 10th century as a wooden stronghold. Today, it’s filled with Gothic churches, cobbled streets, and beautifully preserved historic buildings.

One of my favourite things about Cathedral Island is visiting in the evening, when the historic gas lamps are still lit by hand each night by the city’s lamplighter. You’re also just steps from the beautiful Botanical Garden.

✅ Perfect for couples, history lovers, and anyone looking for a stay in the most beautiful part of town. The area is incredibly scenic, especially around sunset, and it’s easy to combine peaceful riverside walks with sightseeing.

❌ There are fewer accommodation options, restaurants and bars here than in the Old Town, so the evenings are much quieter. But just cross the bridge and you’re in the action.

Przedmieście Świdnickie

Located just south of the Old Town, Przedmieście Świdnickie is a fantastic choice. The neighbourhood stretches between the Market Square and Wrocław Główny train station, making it especially convenient if you’re arriving by train or planning day trips to places like Kraków, Poznań, or the Książ Castle.

✅ Perfect for city breaks, train travellers, and anyone looking for great value. You’re within easy walking distance of the Old Town, the beautiful Wrocław Opera House, shopping centers, and plenty of cafés and restaurants. Accommodation here is often more affordable than in Stare Miasto, while still feeling very central.

❌ Although it’s convenient, the neighbourhood doesn’t have quite the same historic charm as the Old Town or Cathedral Island. Some streets are busier with traffic, and you’ll find more modern apartment buildings alongside older residential blocks.

Nadodrze

If you’ve already visited Wrocław once or simply prefer staying somewhere with a more local feel, Nadodrze is an excellent choice. Once a neglected part of the city, it’s transformed into one of Wrocław’s trendiest neighborhoods. Much like Kazimierz in Kraków.

I love wandering around Nadodrze because it feels much less touristy than the Old Town. You’ll find beautifully restored historic buildings alongside quirky coffee shops, local bakeries, and some of the city’s best restaurants.

✅ Perfect for foodies, coffee lovers, digital nomads, and returning visitors looking to experience a more authentic side of Wrocław. It’s also great value, with many stylish apartments costing less than similar accommodation in the Old Town. Short walk to the Market Square.

❌ Nadodrze doesn’t have many of Wrocław’s major tourist attractions, and some streets are still a little rough around the edges. Lots of construction going on.

Powstańców Śląskich

If you’re looking for a more modern side of Wrocław, Powstańców Śląskich is well worth considering. The neighbourhood is best known for Sky Tower, the tallest building in Poland outside Warsaw, where you’ll find some incredible apartments with floor-to-ceiling windows and panoramic views across the city.

✅ Perfect for longer stays, families, or anyone wanting more space for their money. Compared to the Old Town, you can often find spacious, modern apartments here for surprisingly affordable prices. The area also has excellent shopping, supermarkets, restaurants, and tram connections.

❌ The main downside is that you’re further from Wrocław’s historic attractions. While it’s possible to walk to the Old Town in around 30–40 minutes, most visitors will prefer to take the tram or a short taxi ride.

Przedmieście Oławskie

Located just southeast of the Old Town, Przedmieście Oławskie is a residential neighbourhood with a much more local feel than the historic centre. It’s known for its beautiful old tenement buildings, a mix of architectural styles, and the recently revitalized areas along the Oława River.

✅ Perfect for longer stays. You’ll find plenty of cafés, restaurants and everyday amenities, while the riverside paths and green spaces around the Oława make a lovely place for a morning walk. It’s also close enough to the Old Town to walk to the main sights.

❌ It’s not as polished or picturesque as Stare Miasto or Ostrów Tumski, and some parts of the neighbourhood are still undergoing construction. If you’re visiting Wrocław for just a night or two, I’d choose somewhere more central.

Ołbin

If you want to experience a more local side of Wrocław, I’d definitely consider Ołbin. Located just northeast of the Old Town, this leafy residential neighborhood feels a world away from the tourist crowds while still being only a short tram ride or walk from the city centre.

✅ Ołbin is perfect if you’re staying for several days or working remotely. One of my favorite parts of the day was walking along the Oder River in the morning. The neighbourhood is home to beautiful green spaces, the Church of St. Michael the Archangel, local bakeries, cafés, and small restaurants.

❌ If it’s your first visit to Wrocław and you’re only staying for a weekend, I’d probably choose the Old Town instead. You’ll need to rely on trams or walk around 20–30 minutes to reach Rynek, and the area has fewer tourist attractions than some of the more central neighbourhoods.

My favorite hotels

I usually stay in apartments when I come to Wrocław; however, I do have a couple of favorite hotels I come back to for shorter stays.

Hotel Altus Palace

Hotel Altus Palace is one of the most beautiful hotels in Wrocław, especially if, like me, you have a soft spot for old-world architecture and elegant interior design.

Housed inside the beautifully restored Leipziger Palace, this five-star hotel seamlessly blends the grandeur of a 19th-century palace with contemporary comforts.

From the moment you step inside, you’ll be greeted by soaring ceilings, marble details, and glittering chandeliers.

Despite its luxurious feel, it’s only a short walk from the Market Square, making it the perfect base for exploring the city. If you’re celebrating a special occasion—or simply want to treat yourself—I honestly don’t think it gets much better than this in Wrocław.

PURO Wrocław Stare Miasto

PURO Wrocław Stare Miasto is one of the few chain hotels you’ll ever see me recommend. I normally gravitate towards independent boutique hotels, but PURO is one brand that consistently gets it right.

I’ve stayed at several of their hotels over the years, including the one in Gdańsk, and the Wrocław property is every bit as good. Located just a few minutes’ walk from the Market Square, the hotel strikes the perfect balance between being central and peaceful.

The design is unmistakably PURO, with stylish Scandinavian-inspired interiors, carefully curated artwork by Polish artists, and bright, comfortable rooms equipped with thoughtful touches like tablet-controlled room settings.

Herbal Hotel & Winery

Herbal Hotel & Winery is one of the best-value boutique hotels in Wrocław. Set inside a beautifully restored 17th-century Franciscan monastery, it combines historic character with spacious, comfortable rooms at a price that’s often considerably lower than many of the city’s hotels.

One of the biggest reasons I recommend Herbal Hotel is the big room sizes. The location is also fantastic—you’re just a short walk from the Market Square, the National Forum of Music, and some of my favourite restaurants in Wrocław.

A unique bonus is the hotel’s Herbal Wine Cellar, tucked away beneath the former monastery in centuries-old brick vaults. If you’re interested in local wines, they offer tastings featuring bottles from Lower Silesia alongside wines from across Europe.

The Bridge Wrocław by MGallery

The Bridge Wrocław – MGallery, located on Cathedral Island, is one of the city’s highest-rated hotels.

The design is an almost industrial, New York loft kind of vibe, with Gothic-inspired details, dramatic artwork, floor-to-ceiling windows, and gorgeous views over the Oder River and the city. The rooftop terrace is particularly spectacular, and there’s also a lovely spa and wellness area overlooking the river.

What I especially love about the location is that you get the peaceful, romantic atmosphere of Cathedral Island without being far from the action. The hotel staff is also lovely.

My favorite apartments

In recent years, new apartments have popped up everywhere. Wrocław is now my favorite city in Poland for beautiful apartments at a reasonable price. Here are some of my recent favorites.

Apartamenty Czysta Premium by INA

Apartamenty Czysta Premium by INA is where I find myself returning to again and again in Wrocław. I’ve stayed in several of their apartments over the last year, and they’ve all been consistently excellent.

Everything feels fresh and modern, and I love the attention to detail in the interior design (especially in the red apartments). That’s rare at this price point, where many apartments can feel quite generic.

Communication is always prompt, and the self-check-in instructions are clear, which is especially convenient if you’re arriving late and don’t want to coordinate with a host.

The location in Przedmieście Świdnickie is also fantastic. You’re just a short walk from the Old Town, with lovely riverside paths, cafés, and restaurants right on your doorstep.

River Premium Apartments

River Premium Apartments is an excellent choice if you want to stay close to the Old Town while enjoying a quieter, more local atmosphere. Located in Nadodrze, right on the edge of the historic centre, it strikes the perfect balance. You’re just a short walk from the Market Square but far enough away to escape the busiest tourist streets.

I booked one of the apartments with an industrial concrete design, which isn’t normally my style, but I absolutely loved it. The floor-to-ceiling windows overlook a beautiful blue bridge and river from both the living room and the bedroom.

Check-in was seamless thanks to the clear self-check-in instructions, and communication with the host was always quick and helpful. There is a fairly busy road in front of the building, but I personally wasn’t bothered by it.

Soho Apartment

Soho Apartment is the accommodation I’ve spent the most time in while visiting Wrocław. I originally booked it because I fell in love with the interior design. It has a stylish, upscale feel with carefully chosen furniture and décor that make it feel much more like a beautiful home than a holiday rental.

The apartment is also incredibly spacious. There’s a large bedroom with an enclosed glass balcony, plus an open-plan kitchen and living area with an additional sleeping space.

Since the apartment has been a popular rental for several years, it does show a little wear in places, but honestly, I loved the design so much that it never bothered me.

Located in Ołbin, I loved all the green spaces and walking along the nearby Oder River in the morning. And having a supermarket just up the street for picking up breakfast and snacks.
